Universal Gateway (CargoWise)
CargoWise's API layer for real-time, bidirectional data exchange with external applications, supporting event-driven triggers, webhooks, and synchronous data queries beyond the batch-based eHub approach.
Universal Gateway is CargoWise's modern API integration layer, providing real-time, bidirectional data exchange capabilities that complement the batch-oriented eHub integration platform. While eHub processes XML message submissions asynchronously, Universal Gateway supports synchronous API calls, event-driven triggers, and webhook notifications — enabling external systems to query CargoWise data in real time, receive instant notifications when shipment events occur, and perform transactional operations that require immediate confirmation. This makes Universal Gateway particularly valuable for AI automation systems that need to validate data against CargoWise records before processing, or react to CargoWise events (such as a shipment status change) in real time.
For freight forwarders looking to integrate AI automation with CargoWise, Universal Gateway opens integration patterns that aren't possible with eHub alone. For example, an AI document extraction system can query CargoWise via Universal Gateway to validate an extracted booking reference before processing the rest of the document — catching errors at the point of extraction rather than at the point of import. Event triggers can notify AI systems when specific milestones occur in CargoWise, enabling automated downstream actions like document generation, status notifications, or customs pre-filing.
FreightMynd leverages both eHub and Universal Gateway when integrating with CargoWise, choosing the appropriate mechanism based on the integration pattern. Our 4PL control tower automation uses Universal Gateway for real-time data validation and event monitoring, while using eHub for bulk data submission and document attachment. This hybrid approach provides the best of both worlds: real-time responsiveness for validation and alerting, with reliable batch processing for high-volume data import.
