BAPI (SAP)

Business Application Programming Interface — SAP's standard API mechanism for enabling external systems to read, write, and transact data within SAP modules including SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM).

A BAPI (Business Application Programming Interface) is SAP's standardized method for allowing external applications to interact with SAP systems programmatically. BAPIs expose specific business functions — such as creating a shipment, updating a freight order, or retrieving carrier rates — as callable interfaces that follow SAP's object-oriented data model. In the context of freight forwarding, BAPIs are the primary integration mechanism for connecting AI systems, document intelligence pipelines, and automation tools to SAP Transportation Management (SAP TM) and related SAP logistics modules.

For freight forwarders running SAP TM, BAPIs provide a stable, well-documented pathway to push structured data into the system without manual entry. However, working with BAPIs requires deep knowledge of SAP's data structures, authorization models, and transactional behavior — making integration projects complex and time-consuming when attempted without specialized expertise.

FreightMynd builds AI automation systems that integrate with SAP TM via BAPIs and RFC (Remote Function Call) connections. Our 4PL control tower automation extracts data from freight documents and pushes it into SAP TM using the appropriate BAPIs — handling freight orders, shipment documents, and partner data natively within SAP's data model. This means your AI-processed data flows into SAP TM exactly as if an operator had entered it manually, maintaining full data integrity and audit trails.
