Document Intelligence

AI-powered extraction of structured data from unstructured documents such as PDFs, images, and emails — in freight, used to automatically extract shipment data from invoices, airway bills, packing lists, and compliance documents.

Document intelligence refers to the application of artificial intelligence — including OCR (optical character recognition), natural language processing, and machine learning — to extract structured, usable data from unstructured documents. In the freight forwarding industry, document intelligence systems process the wide variety of documents that flow through operations daily: commercial invoices, bills of lading, airway bills, packing lists, customs declarations, certificates of origin, carrier invoices, and more. The goal is to convert these documents — which arrive as PDFs, scanned images, email attachments, or even fax — into clean, validated data that can be pushed directly into a TMS or other operational system.

The freight industry generates an extraordinary volume of documents. A single international shipment can involve 10-20 different documents, and a mid-size forwarder processes thousands of shipments monthly. Traditionally, every piece of data from these documents must be manually read, interpreted, and re-keyed into operational systems — a process that is slow, error-prone, and doesn't scale. Document intelligence eliminates this bottleneck by automating the extraction process, handling multi-format, multi-language, and multi-supplier variations without requiring manual templates or per-document configuration.

FreightMynd's document intelligence solution is the core technology behind all of our freight automation systems. Built on a pipeline that combines AI extraction, confidence scoring, validation, and exception routing, it handles everything from single-page invoices to 300-page document batches — extracting structured data with high accuracy and pushing it to your TMS via native integrations. The system self-learns new supplier formats, meaning no engineering effort is required when new document types or suppliers are added.
