Spot Quote
A one-time freight rate offered for a specific shipment at current market conditions, as opposed to long-term contract rates. Spot quotes require fast turnaround and are prime candidates for AI automation.
A spot quote is a one-time freight rate offered by a carrier or freight forwarder for a specific shipment, valid for a limited period (typically 24-72 hours) and based on current market conditions. Unlike contract rates, which are negotiated for fixed periods and volumes, spot quotes reflect real-time supply and demand dynamics — container availability, vessel capacity, fuel prices, and seasonal trends. Spot quotes are used when shippers don't have contracted rates for a specific lane, need to move cargo outside their contract volumes, or are testing the market for competitive pricing.
